Snapshots, kernel build, and perl

Just a small heads up.

The release build is broken at the moment.  I know, I am working on it.
In order to do this properly I am messing with the kernel build as well
as some perl scripts.

Just to let you know I am working on it and that I am making good
progress on fixing this.
