I always thought The Way devfs Should Be Done would be a kind of
unionfs for /dev.  If a device with your ownership/permissions
doesn't exist on your non-volatile /dev directory, then you fall
through to devfs which creates it on the fly.  Pretty much the best
of the both worlds.

. ..modulo details, of course, like how to actually create entries
in the upper non-volatile layer, but as long as we're just throwing
out ideas...
