Thank you for your suggestion. The CD I tried before was  
dfly-x86_64-2.8.2_REL.iso. With the CD you suggest, the boot process  
freezes due to a problem with the keyboard driver (screenshot attached).

The keyboard is somehow emulated by Dell's iDRAC and the remote console  
software, so it's not a common piece of hardware. But both Linux and  
OpenIndiana run just fine on the same machine.
Are you sure it's a atkbd issue? Can you try booting verbosely and see if  
it outputs more?
