I've just seen your posting and I think I can offer an explanation: The definitions of D_TAPE, D_DISK, and D_MEM have moved from <sys/conf.h> to <sys/device.h> in HEAD, and the latter is not included in src/bin/dd.c of DragonFly_RELEASE_1_6.
