Unexpected soft update inconsistency

Does this problem persist even if you do the following:
1. reboot to single-user mode
2. run fsck at least once with an '-f' flag
3. go to multi-user mode
4. try building firefox

the reason I care about this is because it seems to me that fsck
sometimes leaves inconsistencies unfixed, especially with -p flag.

if so, have you tried reinstalling gmake (as I wrote in the same thread)?
