Is this a 'make' bug?

:a new world gives me problems as well. make installworld borks half way
:down the road, leaving the system in a unusable state. i had to reinstall
:from cdrom.

I am seeing the same thing. 'ktrace' fails with ld-elf complaining
    about not finding __error.

/bin/sh is completely borked. If I run /bin/sh and try to do
something simple like 'FUBAR=x', it tries to run 'FUBAR=x' as a
program rather then assign x to the 'FUBAR' variable.

I am currently recompiling HEAD from a machine freshly installed from
the release CD to double check that my own hacks aren't at issue.
