Well, I think I can dump to an old IDE hard disk, if it helps.
I'll do it tomorrow after booting with a kernel compiled with gcc2
(I believe gdb still dumps core when trying to debug a kernel.debug
compiled with gcc3).

But having dump support in ips driver is definitely useful,
because then I don't have to swap CD-ROM drive and IDE disk.
