Yes, that was what I did.

Ok, at the moment I don't have console access to the box, so I'll
do the things in the following order:
- remove and checkout the source tree, remove under $MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX,
  do nativekernel, and installkernel after removing /modules.
  The world is built on 11 June, with the following options:
    CCVER=gcc3
    NO_CPU_CFLAGS=yes
    NO_CPU_COPTFLAGS=yes
    COMPAT4X=yes
- if it locks up again, I'll do the change joerg suggested and reinstall
  the kernel next Monday.

The kernel config file is at:
http://les.ath.cx/DragonFly/confs/6000R:gcc3

/boot/loader.conf:
    userconfig_script_load="YES"
    autoboot_delay="1"
    #if_fxp_load="YES"
    miibus_load="YES"
    if_pcn_load="YES"
    beastie_disable="YES"
    ips_load="YES"
    kern.mmxopt=1

Thanks.
