I've tried booting using the 'default', booting with 'ACPI' disabled,

Good news. I just tried the ISO posted at http://www.livebsd.com/dfly/
and it booted without any problems, I used the installer, exited it and
rebooted the system and the installed system booted from the hard drive
without any issues.

My Audigy 2 appears to work with a little kldload prompting, which
leaves only two mysteries:

1) dmesg | less shows that DF thinks I don't have an ATA-66 cable or
something of the like on my first IDE interface where my (only) hard
drive is connected, I do have an ATA-133 rated cable, and the hard drive
is an ATA-100 device.

2) I'm guessing there isn't any support for the integrated Realtek 8169
Gigabit Ethernet Adapter I have. I have a 3com and Kingston network card
laying around though that I can stick in, and I'm willing to take a stab
at helping whomever get the integrated ethernet controller worker. I
don't think I could write one myself, but I might be able to modify an
existing driver to get it to work with the right advice.

I'm subscribed to the newsgroup, it is isn't necessary to CC me.

Thanks.
