     Well, lets start with a stack trace ('trace' in ddb).

     p.s. that wasn't a type-o.. I really meant 'KKASSERT'... it's a short
     form of KASSERT that doesn't require a printf string.  e.g.:

     KKASSERT(DEVICENAME(dev) != NULL);
