Problem with CUPS?

:cups starts up? :-)  Nothing shows up on the console (ie. no debugger),

    Yes, Glenn first posted that.

    I will attempt to reproduce it.  I already tried running lpd and
    that seemed to work, could you try lpd and see if that is able to
    talk to the printer without locking the system up?  It would help
    narrow down the issue.
