xorg fails to start

   I would suggest trying to simplify the configuration as much as
   possible, and even try using the vga driver, just to try to get
   the thing working.

   Sometimes these things fail due to non obvious things, like the
   machine missing a hostname.

   If the problem can't be tracked down that way then try to find the
   core dump that X ought to be generating (you may have to start it
   as root for a core dump to be generated), and see if you can gdb
   it and get a backtrace.  That's a bit involved but it might give 
   us a clue.
