connect problems on SMP

Was something changed recently that might break this again?

ssh: connect to host localhost.localdomain port 22: Operation timed out

It comes and goes. Sometimes I can connect to other machines (and
localhost) without problems, but more often then not it just sits and 
times out.  This just started happening when I upgraded the kernel
because of the fix for the bktr panic I posted about.
